Orientation

When I arrive in a new place, I look to the hedgerows, fields and verges to see who else is here. The plants I find help me orientate myself in a new place, telling me about the soil, season, climate. This ongoing series of cyanotypes documents these encounters. Often made outside, and complete with brush marks, finger prints, and other marks from the making, they do not record specimen so much as form part of my ongoing exploration of my relationship with nature.

Handprinted cyanotype plant portraits available from Flowers Vermilion at Vermilion Stores, Glasgow.
